The following images of the specimen above zoom in on the center shown in cross-section. The first three images were taken with a Canon PowerShot SD770 IS Digital ELPH 10.0 MEGA PIXELS, cropped and resized in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. The images were taken in sunlight outside. Amethyst crystals line the pith cavity.
The close-up below zooms in on three carinal canals shown in the photo above. The image was taken at 100x with a Dino-Lite AD7013 MT 5.0 MP and resized in Adobe Photoshop CS6.

The carinal canals surrounded by primary xylem measure 300 micrometers in diameter. Tracheids in this picture measure 20 to 50 micrometers in diameter.
Arthropitys
The image below was taken with a Canon PowerShot SD770 IS Digital ELPH 10.0 MEGA PIXELS, cropped and resized in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0. The image was taken in sunlight outside. Tracheids in the image measure from 30 to 70 micrometers in diameter. The coloration at the edge of this specimen turns from amethyst to gold.
